Private Pilates vs Small Group Pilates: Which Is Right for You?

2 min read

Pilates doesn't have to look the same for everyone. Your body, your goals, your experience and the way you like to train all play a role in finding the right approach. At reformclub, you can train privately or in a Small Group of up to five people. Both offer personal guidance and access to the Pilates apparatus, but the experience is different. So, which one is right for you?

Private Pilates is completely focused on you. In a one-to-one session, the exercises, equipment and pace can be adapted to your body, your goals and how you're feeling that day. This gives us time to work in detail, explore different movement patterns and continuously adjust the training as you progress.

Private Pilates can be particularly valuable if you're new to Pilates, have specific goals or simply prefer the attention and flexibility of one-to-one training. At reformclub, Private Pilates may include the Reformer, Cadillac, Tower, Chair, Barrel and Mat, allowing us to choose the equipment that best supports your training.

Small Group Pilates combines individual guidance with the energy of training alongside others.

At reformclub, groups are limited to a maximum of five people. Keeping the classes small allows me to pay attention to each person, offer individual adjustments and make sure you're moving with confidence.

You'll work with the Pilates apparatus through varied, progressive sessions designed to build strength, mobility, control and body awareness.

Small Groups are a great option if you enjoy training with others while still wanting personal attention.

Private or Small Group – what's the difference?

The biggest difference isn't necessarily what you do, but how individually the session can be adapted to you.

One-to-one training

Maximum 5 people

Fully personalised

Individual guidance within the group

Training adapted session by session

Structured, progressive classes

Full flexibility across the Pilates apparatus

Varied apparatus-based training

Ideal for individual goals and needs

Ideal for consistent training with others

Neither option is inherently better. The right choice depends on you.

Some clients prefer to train privately long term, while others move into Small Group classes once they've built a strong foundation. And some enjoy combining both.

Not sure where to start?

You don't have to decide before you arrive. Every new client at reformclub begins with a Movement Assessment – two private sessions designed to understand your body, your goals and the way you move.

Together, we'll look at your posture, mobility and movement patterns while you experience the Pilates apparatus and learn the foundations of the method.

At the end, you'll receive a personalised recommendation for the training approach that's right for you – whether that's Private Pilates, Small Group Pilates or a combination of both.
